The Custom Moulding Process
Getting custom earplugs from SoundClear is a straightforward process that typically takes two appointments. The first visit involves a brief consultation and ear impression, while the second involves fitting your finished earplugs. Here is what you can expect at each stage.
Step 1: Consultation
Your audiologist will examine your ears to ensure they are healthy and free from wax buildup or infection. They will discuss your specific needs, the environments where you need hearing protection, and recommend the best type of earplug and attenuation level for your situation.
Step 2: Ear Impression
A soft foam block is placed in your ear canal to protect the eardrum, then a medical-grade silicone impression material is gently injected. The material sets in a few minutes, creating an exact replica of your ear canal and outer ear shape. The process is painless and takes approximately 15 minutes for both ears.
Step 3: Manufacturing
Your ear impressions are sent to a specialist laboratory where your custom earplugs are crafted. The laboratory uses the impressions to create earplugs that match the exact contours of your ear canal, ensuring a precise seal and comfortable fit. Manufacturing typically takes 7 to 10 business days.
Step 4: Fitting
Once your custom earplugs are ready, you return to our clinic for a fitting appointment. Your audiologist will check the fit and seal, ensure the earplugs are comfortable, and provide instructions on how to insert, remove, clean, and care for your earplugs to maximise their lifespan.
