No, you don't need a referral to book an appointment with our audiologists. You can contact us directly to schedule a hearing test or consultation. However, if you'd like to claim a Medicare rebate, a referral from your GP or an ENT specialist is required. We can advise you on the best approach during your initial phone call.
A comprehensive hearing test at SoundClear takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes. This includes a discussion of your hearing history, a physical examination of your ears, the hearing assessment itself, and a thorough review of your results with our audiologist. We never rush our appointments, we want to ensure we fully understand your hearing needs.
Please bring any relevant medical records, any referral letter from your GP or specialist, a list of current medications, and any previous hearing test results if you have them. If you're coming for a hearing aid consultation, also bring your current hearing aids (even if they're not working well). It's helpful to bring a family member or friend as well, a second set of ears can be valuable during the results discussion.
A referral from your GP may be helpful when attending your appointment.
Hearing aid recommendations are personalised based on your hearing loss, lifestyle, and preferences.
Yes, we offer a 30-day trial period on all hearing aids. This gives you time to experience your new hearing aids in your everyday environments, at home, work, restaurants, and social settings. If you're not completely satisfied, we'll work with you to find a better solution or discuss your options. Your satisfaction is our priority.
We recommend a hearing test every two years for adults, or annually if you're over 60, have a family history of hearing loss, or work in a noisy environment. If you notice any changes in your hearing, such as difficulty following conversations or ringing in your ears, book an appointment straight away, regardless of when your last test was.

As an independent clinic, we offer hearing aids from all major manufacturers: Phonak, Oticon, Signia, ReSound, Starkey, and Widex. This means we can recommend the device that genuinely suits your hearing profile, lifestyle, and budget, not just the brand we're contracted to sell. Learn more on our hearing aids page.
